Sailors on Parade at Denton Carnival 2010

Northwest Sailors from Tent #262 had to weather the storm prior to the start of the Denton Carnival on Sunday 12th of September. A heavy rain shower sent all the entrants for the parade scurrying for cover including the Mayor of Tameside, and it was touch and go for the sunshine to return in time for the parade to Denton's Victoria Park.

The assembled gaggle of Laurel and Hardy look-alikes including Georgia Babe and Ulver Stan needn't have worried however, as right on queue the sun burst through the clouds lifting everybody's spirits as we set off behind the pony and trap that lead our entry in the most humorous category of the 2010 Denton and Audenshaw Carnival.

The day was a great success with all the crowd lining the streets enjoying the spectacle clapping and cheering as we marched along to a Laurel and Hardy sound track. Tent members collected charity donations from the public on the journey, and at the end of the march the collection tins were full to overflowing which made us very proud to have taken part.

Many thanks to Tent members Michael Gray and David Gee for organising the float on behalf of Tent #262, to the owners of Blackie the pony for their participation and support and to all the Sailors that turned out to make the day a success and promoting our Laurel and Hardy Society in Hyde.
