Sailors in the Community

Members of the Sailors Beware Laurel and Hardy fan club based in Hyde visited the Sycamores Nursing Home in Newton on Saturday 14th November. One side of their activities is to raise funds for charities and good causes. The latest idea is to take the duo’s wonderful comedy into nursing homes to entertain the residents, bring a smile, have a laugh and reminisce about the past.

It was a great success with many residents chuckling away by the end of the show. As well as viewing films on the big screen, the groups own Laurel and Hardy tribute act ‘Georgia-Babe and Ulver-Stan’ acted out comedy scenes and Bobby Kemp entertained with songs from their films.

Judith Craig was visiting her father James Murray with daughter Madison. Judith said “It will be a lovely memory for my dad, he seemed to really enjoy your performance. To see him laugh and get involved was a precious memory for me too. You guys made my heart smile. Many thanks”.

The group meets on the last Thursday of the month to view Laurel and Hardy films and have a good laugh at the Cheshire Ring pub in Hyde. All welcome.
