The Great Boat Pull for The Christie

On Sunday April 15th the Cheshire Ring Ditch Plodders pulled the horse-drawn narrowboat 'Maria' by hand from Marple Locks to the home of our tent, the Cheshire Ring Public House in Hyde. Our support boats were 'Rose' and 'Joel'. Beautiful weather made it a very enjoyable day and it was a fantastic team effort. A special ale for the event 'Pull The Other One' was put on by landlord Wayne with food, a raffle and an auction raising even more money for a great cause - The Christie Hospital. Our target was £1,000 but we smashed that target raising a magnificent final total of £4,228 after gift aid was added!!!

Thanks go to Barbra Holmes, a director of the Ashton Packet Boat Company, for making available 'Maria', Britain's oldest surviving wooden narrowboat (built in 1854) for the event. Thanks also to Tudor Cruising Club, Ashton, for their invaluable advice and support.
