Ulverston and Brewery Trip

Saturday 27th July
The date for the trip to Ulverston is now fixed. Visit the Laurel and Hardy museum and the Ulverston Brewery. 16 seat minibus cost (per person) is approximately £20. First come first served!! See Michael Gray to book your place.

 

CP Lee - The Mancunian Film Company

Thursday 29th August
We are delighted that CP Lee will be giving an illustrated talk at our August meeting about the company, the studio and its cast of characters to set us up for the guided tour and film show on September 7th - A Grand Afternoon. www.itsahotun.com
 

A Grand Afternoon

Saturday 7th September 2-6 pm
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of 'IT'S A GRAND LIFE', Frank Randle's last film and the last movie shot at Dickenson Road Studios. Meet 2pm outside Hardy's Well for a guided tour of Studio site and film locations around Xavarian College, Rusholme. The event will climax in a screening of 'It's A Grand Life' hosted by Cuthbert.

HARRY SPOONER, Cuthbert Club member and eminent local historian,will be leading this walk round the Rusholme locations used in the filming of this 1953 Mancunian Studios' mad-cap Army caper, bringing back to life memories of the time Diana Dors and Frank Randle turned Rusholme into Hollywood by the Mersey!
 

Stamford Park Boating Lake

We are considering a visit to the boating lake in the summer where we may well re-enact the Men O' War film! Sailor costumes and hats would be great. A film would be shot and placed on this site. More in the coming months.

UPDATE I have passed the boating lake on numerous occasions at the weekend and it has not been open. It opens on an ad-hoc basis if the weather is good!!! This makes it difficult to plan in advance, so we may have to just go at short notice. Heatwave here we come :o)
